On this day in Boxing History….

On the night of 25th February 1964, Cassius Clay aged just 22 won the Heavyweight Championship of the World, beating the indestructible mountain Sonny Liston, in the most hotly anticipated title fight of this very special era of Boxing. From this sensational win which saw Liston quit on his stool through sheer exhaustion and from the beating he was taking from the young Challenger, Clay then went on to dominate the Heavyweight division and forever changed the future of Boxing, inside and outside of the ring.

I have added a link of the famous weigh in and the even more famous fight for anyone who wishes to see this truly historical night in Miami, 49 years ago on February 25th 1964.

Enjoy fight fans!
